City Editor Jordan here — I’ll be honest, watching HBO’s “The Last of Us” made me painfully aware of how unprepared I am for a zombie apocalypse (I know it was fungi in the show — but they were zombies for all intents and purposes, let’s be real).
Here are some local ways you can join me in improving your zombie survival skills:
- Archery is a great skill to have in an apocalyptic scenario so check out Wilderness Archery in Rocklin to get started with lessons.
- For those up-close encounters, take boxing, Muay Thai, or jiu-jitsu classes at Urijah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness.
- I’ve never seen a zombie climb a tree. Tree Top Sac serves as a great model for what arboreal navigation could look like in the face of the undead.
- Don’t like the idea of being stuck in a tree? Hide in one of the city’s 135 fallout shelters.
- You’ll inevitably get some boo-boos during the end of the world. Patch yourself up thanks to first aid lessons from the Red Cross.
- Hungry? Local author Hank Shaw has written several books on foraging and cooking for food in the wilderness.
