Today is no ordinary day — it’s “Twos”day, the twenty-second day in the second month of the year two-thousand-and-twenty-two.
While there is no historical significance to the alliterative date, the fact that it’s positively filled with the magic number two is remarkable. We can’t help but feel like the next 18 hours (if you’re reading this at 6 a.m.) will be imbued with some significance. ✨
For one, Pluto will be returning to the same relative position it was in when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Some scientists are suggesting the event is symbolic of major changes on the horizon.
For two, we can’t help but spot several instances of the number two popping up across our city with connections to our local identity + some notable Sacramentans, both past + present.
So let’s just thank our lucky stars that “Twos”day is no doomsday and count the instances of the number two in Sacramento.
Two Rivers | Sacramento + American
The rivers that hem, and, in a sense, limn the River City — the Sacramento to our west and the American to our north — are easily the most conspicuous instance of doubling in our city.
Joan Didion’s House | 2000 22nd St
Sacramento’s “native daughter,” generation-defining writer, and author of several acclaimed essay collections + the memoir “The Year of Magical Thinking” lived in this house with her family while she finished high school at McClatchy.
Two Climbing Gyms | Pipeworks + The Boulder Field
It might be unassuming, but Sacramento is a great hub for climbing. Not only do we have these two great indoor gyms, but we’re also home to free soloist Alex Honnold (who still climbs at Pipeworks now and then with his mom).
Mark Twain | Pseudonym
It has to be mentioned that the pen name of Samuel Clemmons — the brilliant writer who spent time at the Sacramento Union — features “twain,” an out-of-date term for “two.”
