Rejoice, Sacramento — the spring equinox is Sun., March 20, and with that, the promise of warmer days, blossoming landscapes, and yes (takes deep sigh) lots and lots of pollen. Personally, we think the weather is an underrated conversation topic, so we peeked at some of the major weather trends headed our way over the next few months.
Here’s what you can expect this spring in the River City and beyond based on predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.
🌡️ Temperature
Think warm. There’s a 33-40% chance of temps being hotter than usual — and our “usual” average highs are 72° in April, 80.3° in May, and 87.9° in June. We’re not the only ones though, as you can expect to see warmer-than-normal temps across much of the US, with the exception of the Pacific Northwest, California coast + upper Midwest, where temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler through at least April.
🌨️ Precipitation
You *might* not need that umbrella as much. There’s a 33-40% chance that rainfall will trend lower than normal through June. Sac’s normal averages around 1.26 inches of rain in April, .75 inches in May, and .23 inches in June.
⌛ Drought
With the region currently experiencing its driest year to date, Sacramento’s severe drought status is likely to persist.
