We know small businesses are the heart of our community, so earlier this year, we asked local small businesses to tell us about themselves. They delivered.

We’ve been shining the spotlight on a few of Sac’s small businesses this month, and today it’s Salsa Sazona’s turn. The business is owned by Edward Carrillo, who proudly makes handmade salsas right here in Sacramento as a love letter to his family and his Mexican heritage.

You can find Salsa Sazona’s products at several locations across Sac, including Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op, Compton’s Market, Saturdays at the Midtown Farmers Market, and Sundays at the Carmichael Farmers’ Market.

Here’s a little more info, straight from the biz itself:

Q: What year did you open?
A: 2024

Q: How would you describe your business?
A: Based in Sacramento, Salsa Sazona was born out of our passion for making authentic, handmade salsas. Our salsas are the perfect pair to your favorite chips or food!

Q: What’s unique about the small business scene in Sacramento?
A: We’ve noticed that the small business scene in Sacramento is extremely collaborative and supportive with anything we have taken part of. As new business owners, we’ve felt so welcomed by other small business owners in the area.

Q: Pass the mic. What other small business in town should everyone know about?
A: Sugar Sweetery — if you’re looking for a beautifully made sweet treat that also tastes beyond this world, you need to try them!

Q: When someone visits your small business for the first time, the one thing they have to do, see, or try is…
A: Our three amazing salsas!

Ready to dip? Salsa Sazona’s core salsas are the Salsa De Mango, Salsa Verde + Salsa de Chipotle. Although they vary in spice levels, it’s safe to say they’re all fire.
