The Beijing Olympics are starting this week (Fri., Feb. 4-Sun., Feb. 20), and to get you excited about all of the athletic talent competing this year, we’ve put together a list of 3 athletes from the NorCal region to watch this winter.

Check out the schedule + plan your Olympic events watch party in advance. And don’t forget the Paralympic Games from Fri., March 4-Sun., March 13.

Jamie Anderson | Snowboarding | South Lake Tahoe

From the world-class slopes of Tahoe Palisades to the snowy shores of Lake Tahoe, three-time Olympian (and two-time gold medalist) Jamie Anderson has been snowboarding since nine-years-old. This year, Jamie will be hitting the powder in the slopestyle event.

James Clinton “JC” Schoonmaker | Cross-Country Skiing | Tahoe City

An alumni of Norden, California’s Sugar Bowl Academy (a nationally recognized skiing school founded by a former US Ski Team star in 1998), “JC” Schoonmaker is attending his first-ever Olympics after a fantastic World Cup Tour in 2021. Ring your cowbells loud + proud for James when he sprints for a medal next week.

Ashley Farquharson | Luge | Park City, Utah

The luge wunderkind + Sacramento-born athlete — she left the River City for Utah as a young child — is speeding into her first Olympics at the age of 22. Starting next week, Ashley will be racing for gold alongside Team USA with a sled she dubbed the “Sharknado.”

Pro tip: If you don’t have cable + are looking for ways to stream your favorite events, from ice skating to snowboarding, here’s how.
