We know Sac’s food scene sizzles, but now it’s official. Several Sacramento-area restaurants landed coveted spots on Yelp’s 2025 Top 100 Places to Eat in the US.Let’s dig in — there’s a lot of delicious ground to cover.
This beloved Lebanese restaurant in Rocklin is no stranger to Yelp’s Top 100 list. The cafe has landed on the list several times over the years, and in 2025, it’s No. 6. Yelpers praise Wally’s pomegranate-marinated chicken shawarma, lamb kabobs, and tabbouleh. Oh, and save room for the homemade baklava ice cream.
Coming in hot at No. 21, this Roseville shop is known for its sandwiches made on fluffy homemade bread (try the sourdough), salads, and soups. There’s a secret menu, too.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order calling for California homeowners to create a 5-ft “ember-resisant” zone around their homes to lower fire risk. Cal Fire said details are still murky, but it would be up to local jurisdictions to enforce the rule in fire-hazard areas. (The Mercury News)
Development
Sacramento City Council approved $3.3 million in funding for The Monarch Project, a five-story, mixed-use development on R Street that will turn a former state-owned storage facility into 241 low-income housing units. The project will also feature commercial space and outdoor areas. It’s set to be completed in spring 2027.

With everyone shelling out big bucks for eggs, some Sacramentans are flocking to feed stores to buy chickens. TOMO Noodles & Dumplings is now open in Natomas, a restaurant featuring a variety of build-your-own instant ramen. Here’s how it works: Patrons choose packaged noodles from a shelf, select their toppings, and cook the dish themselves at a hot water station.

A Mexican restaurant dubbed Chando’s Cantina Zazon Del Mar will debut in mid-March at the former Solomon’s site near Downtown Commons. The collaboration between local restaurateurs Lisando “Chando” Madrigal and Jorge Barba will also host Latin American musicians on weekend nights in the upstairs space formerly known as The Russ Room. After 110 years in business, Chicago Cafe in Woodland — potentially the oldest Chinese restaurant in the US — is up for sale for $50,000. The space, owned by the Fong family, needs a remodel. Whoever buys it will be the first person ever outside of the family to own it. (The Sacramento Bee)

The California State Fair will have new weekday hours during its Friday, July 11-Sunday, July 27 run. The gates will open at 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 10 a.m. Friday-Sunday. Fair rep Alex Alcantar also teased this year’s exciting live performances; names will be dropped closer to opening day. (ABC10)

Republic FC and the Capital Black Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to offer a $1,000 Black History Month scholarship to a deserving local student. Applications are open through Friday, Feb. 28. The recipient will be recognized during halftime at Republic FC’s opening night match on Saturday, March 8.

Skate, surf, and snowboard brands Billabong, Quiksilver, and Volcom are closing 100+ retail stores across the US, including the Volcom outlet in Folsom. The operator of the brands filed for bankruptcy, but another operator is taking over. (NBC Bay Area)
