Stingers up, Sacramento. The Sac State Hornets football team is ready to kick off the 2023 season tomorrow, Aug. 31, in Thibodaux, LA, against the Nicholls State University Colonels.

Coming off a historic season — where the team secured their third straight Big Sky Conference championship — the Hornets are ranked as the No. 8 FCS team in the country heading into the fall.

To make your tailgating a little easier, we’ve rounded up some of the most important games the team will play this season — that way you’ll have time to make an extra plate for us.

  • Vs. Texas A&M — Commerce | Saturday, Sept. 9 | 7 p.m. | First home game of the season for the Hornets.
  • @ Stanford | Saturday, Sept. 16 | 5 p.m. | The Hornets travel to Palo Alto, the new home of former head coach Troy Taylor. Awkward.
  • Vs. Montana State | Saturday, Oct. 21 | 7:30 p.m. | The team takes on the visiting Bobcats in a nationally-televised match on ESPN2.
  • @ UC Davis | Saturday, Nov. 18 | 2 p.m. | The Aggies and Hornets clash in the latest iteration of our local college football rivalry — the Causeway Classic.

All match-ups will be broadcast on ESPN+, with the exception of the Stanford game (which will air on the Pac-12 Network) and the game against Montana State.
