Move over, Napa Valley. With 8,000 acres of grape vineyards, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta continues to become a more prominent destination for winemaking + wine tasting alike.

With California Wine Month starting Thurs., Sept. 1, we’re kickstarting the celebrations with a California Delta wine country adventure featuring five wineries that are within ~40 minutes from Downtown Sacramento.

🍷 Harney Lane Winery | 9010 E Harvey Ln.

Laying east of the Delta in Lodi is this family-owned winery which won gold for its 2020 Home Ranch Chardonnay in the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

🍷 Bogle Vineyards | 37783 Co Rd. 144

Named 2022’s Wine Grower of the Year by the California Association of Winegrape Growers, this family-run Clarksburg winery planted its first 20 acres of grapes in 1968. Bogle was also the recipient of the 2018 Green Medal Leader Award, as 96% of its grapes used in the fermentation process were certified green.

🍷 Grand Island Vineyard | 12484 Hwy 160

Committed to sustainable wine growing practices, the estate spans 405 acres of vineyards + offers more than a dozen wine varietals, like Chenin Blanc and Vin Gris.

🍷 Heritage Oak Winery | 10112 E Woodbridge Rd.

Situated on 106-acre lot east of Lodi, this winery — tucked away in the community of Acampo — neighbors the north bank of Mokelumne River. Pro tip: The estate features a hiking trail leading to the river which can be enjoyed for picnics + strolls.

🍷 Scribner Bend Vineyards | 9051 River Rd.

Located along the Sacramento River, this Delta winery’s tasting room + event space — which originally began as part of a barn in 1918 — serves a menu of small bites from Italian restaurant Paesanos that can be paired with its selection of wines.
