As part of the Community Mural Sacramento program hosted by the city’s Office of Arts and Culture, Sacramentans are invited to join in on four free events allowing them to paint murals in their community.
Last February, the city put out a call for local artists to lead the charge in creating 10 murals across the River City. Of the 136 applicants, 39 were chosen to create the community-based art across eight districts — such as Natomas + Del Paso.
The initiative is part of the city’s ongoing “Creative Edge” plan, which aims to bring arts + culture to all areas of Sacramento.
So far, six murals have already gone up around the region:
- “Sky’s the Limit” — 1931 Arena Blvd.
- “Rythym of the Boulevard” — 1332 Del Paso Blvd.
- “Hollywood Habitat” — 4611 Freeport Blvd.
- “Common Ground” — 8355 Arroyo Vista Dr.
- “Totem” — 2450 Meadowview Rd.
- “The Mack Road Gallery” — 6666 Valley Hi Dr.
Three events are planned for May, and will feature food, vendors + live music for residents to enjoy. Paint supplies will be provided, and artists of all levels — from scribblers to DaVincis — are encouraged to join.
- 2630 Northgate Blvd. — Sun., May 1, 12-3 p.m.
- 8581 Keifer Blvd. — Sun., May 15, 12-3 p.m.
- 400 Broadway — Sun., May 29, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
A fourth event will be held at 3271 Marysville Blvd. in June, with a date to be announced in the near future.
