The funding plan for the Railyards soccer stadium development has been delayed by at least a year due to locals’ concerns about affordable housing. Meanwhile, city officials are looking for other ways to support the project and Mayor Kevin McCarty said crews will break ground “very soon.” (ABC10)

A 220,000-sqft district called Project Elevate is coming to Elk Grove, across from District56. The mixed-use project will include an upscale hotel, a central outdoor gathering area for year-round events, and 100,000-sqft of dining, retail, and entertainment spaces. Construction could start in mid-2027, followed by the first openings in 2029.

Sweet news — Chip Cookie recently debuted its second location on Fair Oaks Boulevard in the Campus Commons area. The gourmet cookie shop specializes in gooey creations like classic chocolate chip cookies, plus treats that can be customized with your choice of toppings.
Coming Soon
Temple Coffee will soon open up shop in Terminal B at Sacramento International Airport as part of SMF’s era of new concessions. The traveler-focused location will offer the brand’s beloved coffee drinks, cold brew, and specialty items like the Espresso Tonic, plus grab-and-go snacks and locally made pastries.
Closing
Strapping will shutter its Ice Blocks location at the end of this month. Owner Susan Stewart said this will help her staff refocus their energy + finances on their other two gift shops. In the meantime, Strapping Oak Park will host a fundraiser this Saturday, July 19 with music, food, and drinks.
Fun Fact
If you love local history, this throwback will give you satisfaction. The Rolling Stones performed two shows at Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium nearly 59 years ago as part of their “American Tour.” Peep the show poster from July 22, 1966 — tickets started at just $2.50.

A batch of baby Caribbean flamingos recently hatched at the Sacramento Zoo. The chicks will eventually turn pink and grow to up to 4 ft tall. Check out their flock next time you visit; the zoo is open daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tickets are now on sale for Fairytale Town’s annual Tales & Ales Brewfest Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 23, 5-9 p.m. The event will feature sips from craft breweries, wineries, and cideries, live music, raffles, and food trucks selling snacks.
