On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Sacramento Kings were recognized with two monumental titles — the NBA Team of the Year + the NBA Innovation Award.
During the 2022-23 season, the Beam Team broke their 17-year playoff drought + secured a home-court advantage for the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
The season included even more key feats for the Kings, like:
More than a 200% increase in game viewership
Ranked No. 1 in fan in-game experience across the league
Ranked No. 2 in ticket revenue growth for NBA teams
Most-watched first-round playoff game in 24 years
ABC’s largest television audience for a non-NBA Finals game — ever
The NBA Innovation Award was largely won over by our iconic victory Beam, which garnered international attention.
Fun fact, The Beam is actually listed on Google Maps as a “Place of Worship” — as it should be.

Get in, we’re going shopping: 7 thrift stores in Sacramento
Sacramento is full of havens for the eclectic + thrifty. | Photo by SACtoday staff
Whether you’re looking for more eco-friendly choices or just ballin’ on a budget, these thrift stores are definitely the best spots to source unique pieces — and for a great deal, of course.
Located right next to Golden Road Brewing, this thrift store (1906 L St.) features a selection of vintage and used clothing, organized by color and size. You can also bring any clothes in your closet that aren’t making the rounds to sell in-store on weekdays — just make sure to call-in first in case they hit capacity early.
This shop (2315 J St.) holds an array of hand-selected vintage clothing, accessories, shoes, jewelry + home decor. The mission of its owners is to curb the negative impacts of fast fashion with sustainable alternatives. In addition to its permanent storefront, the Bus Stop Vintage also has a pop-up at the Midtown Farmers Market every Saturday.
Thrifting is definitely a favorite pastime of mine — maybe I’ll post a haul from some of my favorite thrift stores + vintage shops in Sacramento. And yes, I will absolutely tag where I snagged my finds (we don’t gatekeep in this household). Stay tuned. 👀
