This year, Mardi Gras falls on Tues., March 1, but here in Sac — we’re eager to get the party started.

The City of Trees Parade will be the city’s biggest celebration of the New Orleans tradition, but with an important twist. It will serve as a cultural showcase of the Sacramento region, told through the format of Mardi Gras.

The event is the result of Curiosity Collaborative partnering with Wide Open Walls, Sacramento NAACP, and Sacramento Valley Spark. The parade will be held on Sat., Feb. 26 at 5 p.m., starting on 9th and Capitol Mall + ending at 2nd and I St.

Revelers can expect to see floats, art cars, marching bands, poi spinners, brass bands, and dancers, as well as lots + lots of food trucks. So far, there are ~575 performers confirmed to participate in the parade.

Want to be a part of the festivities? Volunteer with the Krewe of Trees, shower the crowd with beads + get a free ticket to the Cajun Food and Music Festival happening right after the parade until 11p.m. Funky fits and costumes are encouraged.
