Sacramento community members looking to beautify their neighborhoods can get a helping hand from the city, thanks to a grant program.

The Neighborhood Clean-Up Grant offers up to $800 for the removal of debris and garbage in neighborhoods across the city. Applicants must belong to an organized group with supporting documentation, such as a community group, homeowner association, nonprofit, or church group. Eligible groups can apply to have the cost reimbursed for up to three clean-up events per year — for a total of $2,400.

The grant covers expenses such as:

  • Cost of trash removal supplies
  • Equipment rental
  • Gas to transport trash to a dump
  • Cost of disposal
  • Volunteer meals
  • Promotion of volunteer events

According to city officials, the program has distributed $3,017 for clean-up events that have removed 11.5 tons of garbage and debris since launching last fall.
