We know the question on your mind, Sacramentans — When’s it going to get really cold? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center , we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect for winter in Sacramento.

It’s definitely subject to change a bit as we get into the thick of it, but here’s a prediction of what we will see come December, January, and February.

Reminder: The first day of winter is on Thursday, Dec. 21.

Expect warmer than usual weather this winter.

Think cool. This winter, Sac has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

🌨️ Precipitation

Expect slightly more precipitation. Sacramento has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall amounts this winter.

December’s Deal

December is typically the coldest month of the year in Sacramento, with temperatures averaging a high of 54° and a low of 41°. Rain falls for about nine days on average during the month, and most days typically experience less than 10 hours of daylight.

Jump into January

January’s conditions are similar to December’s, with average temps between 55° and 41°. Average rainfall for this month reaches only 1.1 inches, so grab your favorite warm beverage and enjoy a walk on a cool, clear day.

February’s Forecast

Things begin to warm up in February, as the average high creeps closer to 60°. The average humidity will begin to dip as well, lowering from 79% to 73%. The days begin to last longer in February as well, gaining almost a full hour of daylight in comparison to December.
