Sandwiches and wraps
Guy’s for Lunch, 1249 Pleasant Grove St., Ste. 150, Roseville | This shop is known for its sandwiches made on fluffy homemade bread that cost around $13. Try the chicken salad sandwich or treat yourself to a $15 sandwich from the secret menu — we suggest The Nor Cal. By the way, this eatery ranked No. 21 on Yelp’s 2025 Top 100 Places to Eat in the US.
Corti Brothers, 5810 Folsom Blvd. | Order a specialty sandwich like The Tuscany with Italian-style fennel salami for $10, the chicken parm on a sourdough roll for $12, or the Corti Special for $8.49 — you choose the bread, garnishes, and cheese, and the deli chooses the meats.
Roxie Deli & Barbeque, 3340 C St. | The breakfast sandwiches are served all day here, and we think the No. 1 — two eggs, ham + cheddar — is an egg-cellent choice for $11. Pro tip: If you’re strapped for time, call in your order and opt for curbside pickup.

Sushi
Engawa Fusion, 7301 Stockton Blvd. | This Japanese fusion restaurant was ranked No. 95 on Yelp’s 2025 Top 100 Places to Eat in the US, and we get the hype. Engawa’s signature item is the sushi taco, and those start at $9.50 a pop.
Makisu Sushi, 2338 Fair Oaks Blvd. | In a hurry? Makisu has a drive-thru pick-up window perfect for grabbing a quick bite. Focus on the menu’s simple + vegetarian rolls, like its $7.50 spicy tuna roll, $6.95 California roll, or its $10 Alaskan roll with salmon, avocado, and sesame seeds. You’ll find lots of Makisu options on the menu, too, priced at $12 or less.
Silver Sake, 4949 Marconi Ave., Carmichael | Head straight for the hand rolls priced at $10 or less like the Volcano or Hula, or try the Omakase option and let the chef personalize a hand roll for you.
Tacos
Tony’s Tacos, 6425 Florin Perkins Rd. | Try the namesake Tony’s Taco with Cotija cheese, or spice things up with the Kartel Taco topped with habanero salsa — both are $6.
Sal’s Tacos, 400 C St. | Try the plate of four street tacos — chicken, pastor, carnitas, or carne asada — for $14.55. If you’re vegan, go for the crispy tacos de papa for $14.75.
Midtown’s Cantina Alley, 2320 Jazz Alley | We recommend building your own combo of street tacos priced between $3.75 and $6 like the carne asada street taco, crispy papa taco, and Baja fish taco.
La Vedanita, 3501 Third Ave. | The tacos start at $5.25 each, so grab a couple — maybe something traditional like the carnitas paired with something more daring like the Vampiro with al pastor pork, fried cheese, salsa ranchera, red onions, and cilantro.

You can add chili to this beauty if you’re feeling saucy.
