News Notes

Traffic

Starting this week, local drivers could be fined $25 for not following California’s daylighting law. Vehicles can’t park within 20 ft of any crosswalk or 15 ft from crosswalks with curb extensions, even if there’s no sign or a painted curb.

Award

In case you missed it — Sacramento’s beloved Vietnamese restaurant Pho Momma landed a 2025 California Michelin Bib Gourmand award for its delicious yet affordable eats. Meanwhile, Chef Chris Barnum-Dann of Localis received Michelin’s Sommelier Award for his expert wine pairings. Catch up on all things Michelin in Sac. (The Sacramento Bee)

Closed

After 13 years in business, Public House Downtown closed its doors earlier this week. MAC Hospitality Group said the space on 16th and L streets will be transformed into a Mexican restaurant named Casa Lola, slated to open this fall. (KCRA)

Coming Soon

Local sommelier Amitesh “Tesh” Diyal plans to soon open Le Tesh Wine Lounge in downtown Roseville, a boutique space to explore new sips. The lounge will offer a curated menu of upscale snacks and allow guests to bring takeout from nearby restaurants to pair with their wine. (ABC10)

Biz

The city is looking for an operator for a waterfront restaurant on Front Street in Old Sacramento. The space is being renovated and will eventually boast a 3,200-sqft deck with river views and a 5,300-sqft indoor area for events and dining. Bids are due by Friday, Aug. 29.

Civic

Sacramento recently broke ground on The Heights on Stockton, a housing development near Stockton Boulevard featuring 200 apartments for local low-income households. The city will also open Joshua’s House Hospice on Wednesday, July 16, a residential facility providing end-of-life care for up to 15 locals experiencing homelessness.

Real Estate

According to Realtor.com, median home prices in Sacramento dropped slightly in May to $499,000. The number of listings on the market grew by 21.2% — there were 1,181 homes for sale in the River City, which is 65.8% more than the same time last year.

Arts

The stretch of 21st Avenue from Highway 99 across Franklin Boulevard is now more colorful than ever. The city and Franklin Neighborhood Development Corporation completed a beautification project that includes community-inspired murals, wrapped utility boxes, and sculptures. To curb illegal dumping, new signs are posted along the Highway 99 underpass.

Outdoors

Ancil Hoffman Park in Carmichael is closed to vehicle traffic through the end of July as crews repair and repave roads and parking lots. The county expects to reopen the roads + lots by early August. Access to Ancil Hoffman Golf Course and Effie Yaw Nature Center is available during construction.

Older Adults

According to new retirement research, Roseville is the No. 1 city to retire in California. The rankings were based on factors like the percentage of seniors, median home sale price, median rent, and local sales tax. Nearly 19% of Roseville’s population is 65 or older. (RetirementLiving.Com)

The mural was created by Bay Area artist Liv Losee-Unger of ORLUarts. When you visit, pull up this guide about the mural’s themes + symbolism — it was developed by Losee-Unger in collaboration with Wilton Rancheria, local botanists, and environmental experts to make the art installation an educational experience.
