Oh, sweet spring, is that you?

Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in Sacramento this spring, from mid-March to mid-June.

While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what spring will bring.

Reminder: The first day of spring is Thursday, March 20.

Temperature

Sac is predicted to experience typical spring temps for the area. We’re all about layering this time of year — a T-shirt for daytime and a light jacket for the evening.

Precipitation

Expect average precipitation. The City of Trees is predicted to experience ordinary rainfall amounts for the season (~2.5 inches).

Drought

According to the US Drought Monitor, drought conditions in Sacramento County are currently being kept at bay while other parts of California have dropped into very dry territory.

News Notes

Transit

The city released its “Streets for People” active transportation draft plan, a strategy to give Sacramentans more comfortable, easy options for walking, biking, and rolling around their neighborhoods. Locals can review the document and comment on it through Sunday, April 6.

Weather

The major winter storm that hit NorCal yesterday is expected to linger through today. Snowfall will vary with elevation and temps, but nearby ski resorts are likely to get substantial snow. Tourist traffic will be heavy this weekend and snow chain requirements will be in effect, so plan accordingly. (ABC10)

Closing

The Waterfront Wheel in Old Sacramento will take its final ride on Monday, March 17. With the attraction’s removal, the city will begin building a new children’s playground at Waterfront Park that will be designed to “honor and celebrate our region’s Indigenous community.”

Open

Chef Burma is now open on 16th Street in midtown, hailing from the owners of My Burma in Davis. The menu at Sacramento’s first Burmese restaurant includes appetizers like samusas, noodle dishes like the Burmese-style pad Thai, and lots of veggie options. (The Sacramento Bee)

Announced

The California State Fair announced two more concerts for its 2025 lineup. Country crooner Joe Nichols will take the stage on Wednesday, July 23, and rockers O.A.R. will perform on Friday, July 25. Outdoors

Part of the American River Bike Trail within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area will be closed beginning Monday, March 17, for a utility undergrounding project. The area between Mountain Oak Court and Rainbow Bridge will be off limits Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. It’s expected to reopen by Tuesday, April 1.

Feel Good

Please kindly drop everything and enjoy this cuteness overload. The Sacramento Zoo’s Amirah the giraffe gave birth to a female calf earlier this month. The duo have been nursing and bonding and will make their public debut soon. For now, visitors might catch a glimpse at their habitat’s side yard.

Whether you’re a sports fanatic — or just look good in purple and black — when it comes to sports, Sacramento has no shortage of teams to support. Today, let’s focus on the Athletics, who will play their first-ever Sac home opener on Tuesday, March 31.

The Athletics (MLB) | Est. 1901

OK, so the A’s aren’t technically Sacramento’s team, but they are calling West Sac home from 2025 to 2027 before their relocation to Las Vegas. The A’s played their final home game in Oakland on Sept. 26, 2024, in front of an emotional crowd of 45,000 fans, marking the end of an era for the club.

Where they’ll play: Sutter Health Park
  • The park has a capacity of 14,000, including 10,624 permanent seats and additional lawn seating on the grass berms.
  • Local fandom is high — the team sold out their 2025 season tickets.
Team colors: Green, gold, white
  • As part of their “Sacramento era,” the team will wear a green and gold patch on their uniforms in 2025 featuring the Tower Bridge with “Sacramento” scrolled beneath it.
Score: More Sac sports teams

The Wrap

Renowned Sacramento Chef Buu “Billy” Ngo recently debuted Chu Mai, a Chinese-Vietnamese restaurant on 17th Street with a lot of personality. I loved reading about how the restaurant is his love letter to his mother, from its name to its decor. In the dining room, patrons will find three portraits of Ngo’s mom at different life stages. Ahem — I hope my kids are taking notes.
