Will U be mine 4ever, Sacramento?
Whether you have a valentine, palentine, or you’re just experiencing some low morale-entine, some sweet confections are sure to brighten your day.
These local bakers are open for Valentine’s Day requests, but they sell out fast — so we’re serving up some of Sac’s sweetest spots to book before it’s too late.
Sprinkle Sugar Pop Choose from heart-shaped cakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, or a box of assorted sweets. Each selection features a message, ranging from platonic to romantic.
Bundle of Cupcakes Not every rose has its thorn — we prefer our flowers thorn-free and covered in frosting. These unbelievable cupcake arrangements are dressed up like a bouquet of roses, and you’ll have to eat it to believe it.
Sugar Sweetery Not only has this place been featured on Food Network, they also offer hands-on classes to craft your own goodies. Shop from their workshops, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and more to decide your Valentine’s Day vibe.
Biancaakaa Bakes This one has range, and we’re here for it. From punny messages in flawless frosting, decadently tiered cakes, and an homage to Flamin’ Hot Cheetos — yes, you read that right — Biancaakaa’s sweets pack some heat.
CHELLYBERRIES Keep it classy with some chocolate-covered strawberries + roses, arranged so carefully that it even makes perfectionists a little jealous. Seriously, if our lives were this orderly it might solve all our issues.

La Costa Cafe features a a wide variety of seating and plenty of natural light. | Photo by SACtoday staff
Sacramento’s Downtown and Midtown are home to a gorgeous bouquet of coffee shops and cafes, and La Costa Cafe (701 19th St.) just joined the bunch.
Chef and owner Ignacio Ortega Perez brings his Latin American roots to the menu, which offers pan de elote, tamales, breakfast burritos, and more. Among the obvious coffee choices like lattes and cappuccinos, other beverage options include a modest variety of teas.
La Costa’s interior is committed to a clean and bright aesthetic, with large tropical plants dispersed throughout to liven it up.
Customer comfort + utility seems to be at top of mind with a thoughtful array seating options: booths, table tops, window bar stools, and outlets at each station.
The cafe also offers purchasable off-menu items like produce + floral arrangements assembled by Perez’s “other half,” Lys (which is so adorable it makes us sick — in the best way, of course).
A colorful box of bonbons, a heart-shaped peanut butter bar, or any other small business-made chocolate to indulge and treat yourself this weekend. Don’t forget to add a hot cocoa bomb to cart, too.
Guys, I don’t think you understand how chronically online I am — in case you couldn’t tell that ~90% of the updates and news I found was via local businesses’ Instagram accounts.
But you know what? I commit to the iPad kid persona so you all can touch some grass. Let me know how it feels, please. 👨💻
