Feeling saucy? Dig into a slice of local pizza. If you’re on the quest for the perfect slice, we’ve pie-oneered a list of 16 places to grab pizza that are definitely worth the dough.

Local legends

Uncle Vito’s Slice of NY, 1800 15th St., Ste. E
Its location across the street from Ace of Spades + a late-night happy hour make Uncle Vito’s perfect for a post-concert pit stop not to mention it offers what can only be referred to as “Costco-sized” slices.

Giovanni’s Old World New York Pizzeria, Multiple locations
Stop by for lunch Monday-Saturday to snag two slices and a soda for $10.99 — maybe even add a bucket of beers if the rest of your day looks open. We’re not here to tell you how to live your life.

Think outside the pizza box

Curry Pizza House, Multiple locations
Classic Indian flavors work with incredible pizza crusts and some serious amounts of cheese to give us savory and spicy delights such as the Chicken Tikka pizza — made with garlic sauce, chicken tikka, cilantro, tomatoes, and red and green onions.

Buffalo Pizza and Ice Cream Co., 2600 21st St.
Besides traditional pies (and ice cream, as implied by the name), Buffalo also serves up breakfast pizzas — a mouth-watering combo of scrambled eggs and cheese topped with a variety of meats or veggies.

SAC-style

Pizza Supreme Being, 1425 14th St., Ste. C
What other pizzeria carries a pie inspired by our own legendary local taco chain, Jimboy’s Tacos? Case closed.

Anonimo Pizza, 400 12th St.
We can’t decide which pizza we like more — the duck carnitas pizza or the pear honey pizza — so we recommend you just order both.

Sacramento Ballet’s production of “Cinderella” by Paul Vasterling is simply wonderful, so mark your calendars for Friday, Feb. 16- Sunday, Feb. 18.

The adaptation of this classic fairy tale — an “inspiring and visually stunning” thrill ride — is set to Sergei Prokofiev’s magical score performed by a live orchestra.

Audiences will be immersed in Cinderella’s romantic adventures through the show’s 18th-century costumes and intricately-designed sets. Bonus: Don’t miss the free dress-up party before each matinee.

It’s not too late to surprise your Valentine with tickets to the show.

News Notes

Closed
  • Golden Road Brewery closed its Midtown tap room on Monday, Jan. 22, after more than five years of business. Some of you may remember the brewery’s controversy, when the city failed to implement standard restrictions on hours and alcohol licensing.
Education
  • The Sacramento County Office of Education aims to place ~300 mental health clinicians in school districts, covering every campus in the county. This would be an end result of the three-tier program to foster discussion, target needs + increase access to mental health services for all students. (Sac Bee)
State
  • This spring, California is rolling out another $250 million in down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers. This new round of assistance launched yesterday, and homebuyers have until April to find a state-approved lender and start working on an application for the lottery — of which ~2,000 will be selected. (CapRadio)
Trending
  • “Hey Zach! Do you want to talk about it?” — This was the message displayed in place of a pride banner that was stolen from Parkside Community Church (and caught on video). The church has had 20 banners vandalized in the past three years, and has opted to open dialogue instead of pressing charges. Read the full letter to “Zach” here. (KCRA 3)
Development
  • Early plans for two new Midtown housing projects were submitted — one for the historic Marshall School property (2718 G St.), the other for an office building at 23rd St. + Quill Alley. The plan details duplex additions to the school property, garden planters, and utilizes the existing structures for apartments. (Sac Biz Journal)
Coming Soon
  • Bay Area-based 5 Tacos & Beers is approaching construction for its first Sacramento location. The restaurant will occupy the space formerly held by Hot Italian (1627 16th St.), serving a rotating menu of craft beers and traditional Mexican tacos. (Sac Biz Journal)

🍷 Wine tasting, Southwest style

Picture this — Tables of wine tastings, live DJ mixing, spicy eats, and wine enthusiasts at every turn.

Perhaps an average night in Sacramento, but with one twist — it’s not your typical California wine.

Viva Vino brought New Mexico’s wine country to Solomon’s Vinyl Diner to promote a variety of wineries and pours on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and you can try them too.

Frequent fliers of Sacramento’s Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, Viva Vino members + staff come to the City of Trees for tips from the winemakers of California.

Christopher Goblet, Viva Vino Executive Director, credits Sacramento’s innovative people + ever-evolving food and drink industry for much inspiration in New Mexico’s wine industry. Each year, Viva Vino’s wineries implement techniques from the symposium + commune in Sac’s restaurants and bars.

Want a taste? Wineries will be handing out samples for symposium visitors at today’s regional tasting, from 4 to 5 p.m., at SAFE Credit Union Convention Center.

Snag your tickets now.

Shoutout

We wanted to take this opportunity to shout out loyal SACtoday reader Heather G., who responded with the following about our “Do you eat meat?” survey:

“Thanks for asking about meat eating. I get too many newsletters these days that assume everyone is plant based or wants to be. Obviously, in Sac, that’s not the case! Appreciate the survey and found it very interesting!”

One of my favorite happy hours in town is at Cafeteria 15L — SACtoday staff stopped by for drinks + every form of potato possible.

Four people sit around a table, littered with drinking glasses and plates, at Cafeteria 15L in Sacramento.

Biiiiiiiiig fans of a french fry flight — AKA, the “Trio of Fries.”
