Stingers up, Sacramento. The Sac State Hornets football team is ready to kick off the 2023 season tomorrow, Aug. 31, in Thibodaux, LA, against the Nicholls State University Colonels.
Coming off a historic season — where the team secured their third straight Big Sky Conference championship — the Hornets are ranked as the No. 8 FCS team in the country heading into the fall.
To make your tailgating a little easier, we’ve rounded up some of the most important games the team will play this season — that way you’ll have time to make an extra plate for us.
Vs. Texas A&M — Commerce | Saturday, Sept. 9 | 7 p.m. | First home game of the season for the Hornets.
@ Stanford | Saturday, Sept. 16 | 5 p.m. | The Hornets travel to Palo Alto, the new home of former head coach Troy Taylor. Awkward.

Wildfire season is officially upon us. For the first time this year, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning across our region through 8 p.m. tonight, and PG&E is already forecasting potential power shutoffs today in areas like Yolo County.
A Red Flag Warning goes into effect when these three conditions are met, all of which contribute to increased fire risk:
Warm temperatures
Low humidity
Strong winds
National Weather Service officials also ask that residents conducting outdoor burns (where allowed) cover burn barrels with weighted metal covers, and drown fires with plenty of water until they are cold to the touch.
