If you or someone you know deals with Celiac Disease, gluten intolerance, or you’re just not feeling wheat —you know that finding gluten-free options can be tricky.

To that, we say — piece of cake. These are five local spots with offerings that, gluten intolerance or not, we think everyone will enjoy.

  • Family-owned bakery with a completely gluten-free menu
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Try this: New Yorker sandwich made with cashew pepper jack cheese + homemade gluten-free bread
Sibling by Pushkin’s | 1813 Capitol Ave., Sacramento
  • A Pushkin’s establishment that offers gluten-free and vegan versions of brunch classics
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-3 p.m., open seven days a week
  • Try this: Shakshuka bowl with spiced tomato sauce + baked eggs
Babes Ice Cream & Donuts | 2417 J St., Sacramento
  • Another Pushkin’s Bakery establishment that serves vegan and gluten-free desserts with a monthly rotating menu
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m., open seven days a week
  • Try this: The fluffy apple fritter + decadent tiramisu ice cream

  • Hours: Opens daily at 8 a.m., though closing hours vary.
  • Try this: Thai green curry with sautéed chicken + steamed rice

Number
  • 30,000. That’s roughly the number of kitchen pails that Sacramento’s Recycling and Solid Waste Division has doled out to residents in the past year. The pails are part of the city’s organic waste recycling program that launched last summer. (Sacramento City Express)

  • Tomorrow, July 8, community members are invited to beautify the 21st Avenue underpass — located between Franklin Boulevard and 34th Street — by helping paint a mural. The free, all-ages event runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (Sacramento City Express)

  • Downtown’s London Nightclub is set to reopen under a new moniker — The Chelsea. London Nightclub has been closed since December 2022, when the city denied its permit renewal amid security concerns. The venue is hoping to open by August or September. (KCRA 3)

  • Go ahead and raise a glassa new wine bar is coming to East Sac. Located at 5619 H St., Joneck’s Wine Bar doesn’t have an opening date set in stone yet, but plans to contain a wine bar and lounge with space for ~50 people. (Sac Biz Journal)
