From sprawling, fun-filled off-leash play areas to dog pools, Sacramento is spotted with dog parks — making the options for our furry friends endless.

Turn a ruff day into a better one with an outing at one of these five dog parks with your four-legged BFFL. Bone appétit. 🐶

Brooks Truitt Bark Park, 1818 Q St.

Looking for a puppy photo op? The colorful, multi-patterned, 7-ft-tall “Bark” sculpture is a must-see at this park. Also, enjoy two separate play areas for large and small dogs on a decomposed granite surface with water fountains + seating for owners.

North Natomas Regional Dog Park, 2501 New Market Dr.

More than just a playground, this dog park borders on state-of-the-art for its canine agility course, along with dog wash faucets and a fire hydrant spray feature. Larger breeds can enjoy two acres — and a considerably-sized splash pool in the summer — with a separate half-acre for smaller dogs.

Granite Regional Park, 8200 Ramona Ave.

Knock out two birds with one stone at this park that’s perfect for the entire family. Amenities include a grass and dirt play area for both large and small dogs, with an optional area for small breeds.

The Roy C. Marcum Bark Park, 3839 Bradshaw Rd.

Open seven days a week, this 2-acre pup paradise comes with separate areas for large and small dogs + doggy drinking fountains. Looking to adopt a playmate for your pet? Stop by the Sacramento County Animal Shelter conveniently located right next door.

Howe Park, 2201 Cottage Way

Pups are sure to have a good time at this quaint off-leash park with lush, green grass and trees inside a fenced area. Sports options for humans include softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts + sand volleyball courts.

Looking for a few more outdoor havens where your dog can have a grand old time? Check out this full list of off-leash parks owned by the City of Sacramento.

Get a taste of Sacramento as a flavor of ice cream

Recently, we asked you to come up with a unique ice cream flavor that describes Sacramento and utilizes one to three locally sourced ingredients. After reading all of your responses, it’s safe to say that our mouths are watering. Here were two of our favorites:

Vanilla bean ice cream mixed with blackberries found along the Sacramento River Parkway (to create the color purple for the Kings) and ribbons of dark chocolate representing the rivers that snake through the city. Called “Ribbons of Royalty.” - CH

An ice cream base made with a seasonally rotating fresh fruit from the farmer’s market and mixed with Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates’ fleur de sel caramel sauce, Blue Diamond toasted almonds, and Carmazzi Caramel Corn. Called “Farm-to-spoon.” - Rosie H.

The only thing we need now is a local ice cream shop to make one of these flavors a reality. Gunther’s Ice Cream and Vic’s Ice Creamwe’re looking at you.
Submit your Sac-inspired flavor
