We don’t know about you but for us, the smell of barbecue is deeply entangled with summertime. There’s something about the click-clack of tongs and feeling of sticky, sauce-covered fingers that just brings a smile to our hearts.
If you’re not much of a grillmaster yourself, check out these four places around Sacramento where you can pick up some barbecue.
Sauced BBQ & Spirits, Downtown Sacramento
Want barbecue for dinner? Sauced has a 12-hour smoked short rib covered in a chipotle blackberry glaze that’s only available after 5 p.m. every day — and entirely worth the wait.
Tank House BBQ & Bar, Midtown
Bring out the whole squad and order a barbecue platter — like the Midtown Chowdown, which includes a full rack of ribs, 1 pound of brisket, 1 pound of pulled pork, half of a chicken, two hot links, and onion rings.
Buckhorn Grill, Locations vary
With five locations across the Sacramento area (and three more in the Bay), you’re never too far from Buckhorn’s delicious offerings — whether that’s a barbecue sandwich, salad, burger, or platter.
Roxie Deli and Barbecue, East Sacramento
Roxie rotates its offerings daily, so be sure to check the menu before heading out. Right now, the schedule features tri-tip on Mondays, pulled pork on Tuesdays, ribs on Wednesdays, and brisket on Thursdays + Fridays. Smoked chicken and meatloaf is available daily.

SmileDirectClub launches new treatment option in Sacramento

We’re going to give it to you straight, SAC. SmileDirectClub, the popular at-home teeth straightening provider, has a new treatment option — and Sacramento is just one of four cities they’re launching it in.
SmileDirectClub CarePlus+ offers the same convenience of licensed virtual care and getting aligners shipped directly to your house, but with the added option of in-person appointments with a local dentist. Here’s how the 3-step process works:
Book a free appointment with a local dentist: The dentist takes a high definition 3D scan of your teeth and answers all your questions.
Get aligners shipped to your door + receive expert guidance — either virtually with a licensed network dentist or in-person with a local dentist (it’s up to you).
See results in as little as four-six months, backed by a Lifetime Smile Guarantee™.
Bonus: SmileDirectClub CarePlus+ costs a flat-fee of $3,900 or $115 per month (that’s up to thousands of dollars cheaper than traditional clear aligners).*
Sacramento kids under the age of 18 can stop by one of 13 different libraries this summer to receive free lunch. Lunch at the Library will run Tuesday-Friday, 12-1 p.m., from June 13 through Aug. 4. No registration or paperwork is required. (FOX40)
Civic
Sacramento’s Department of Utilities is set to begin its next round of upgrades to the city’s flood control system. Six new areas have been identified for maintenance this month, following the six sites that were upgraded in April and May. (Sacramento City Express)
Open
Roscoe’s Burger and Bar is now open in Lavender Heights. Stop by 2007 K St. to try its po’ boy sandwiches, salads, pub tacos, and more — and be sure to stay for weekly events like trivia, open mic, karaoke, and drag bingo. (ABC10)
Coming Soon
Elk Grove-based Shabu Shack has signed a lease to open a new location in the Davis Commons. The Japanese hot pot restaurant is also in the process of opening a 4,500-sqft downtown Sac location. (Sac Biz Journal)
Shop
It’s Pet Appreciation Week, and it’s a great time to celebrate your furry friends. From stylish collars and leashes by Major Darling to healthy treats by Botanical Bones, our online shop (Six & Main) features the perfect products for your pets.

What to do if you see a coyote on the American River Parkway
City Editor Jordan here. It wasn’t until this weekend that I learned there are coyotes on the American River Parkway — through a firsthand experience when one trotted across the path in front of me and my dog.
If you see one of these local canines — which are apparently fairly common — make sure to follow these tips from the American River Parkway Foundation:
Don’t approach it (honestly, can’t believe this needs to be said).
Don’t run — this may trigger a predator-prey instinct in the animal, so instead wave your arms and make loud noises.
Keep your dog on a leash — the coyote may see it as competition, or even food if it’s small enough.
Don’t leave kids or pets unattended (this is just pretty good advice in general for walking along the parkway).
If you see a coyote that’s acting aggressive, call park rangers at 311.
Friday’s Concerts in the Park was extra special for me — I got to see my friend from college perform with his band, The Countermen. Their latest single “Complacent Adjacent” is a certified indie rock bop.
