Pulse-pounding first date ideas in Sacramento

Research has suggested for decades that the link between adrenaline and attraction is strong. Considering Sacramento’s less-than-stellar reputation for its singles scene, we thought some of you could use all the tips you can get (just kidding, you’re perfect the way you are).

Check out five spots around the City of Trees where you can have a thrilling first date:

iFly Indoor Skydiving, 118 Harding Blvd., Roseville
Getting a license to skydive requires a level of commitment that — let’s be real — will take longer than a relationship may last. Flap your wings on over to iFly to get the rush you’re looking for in the meantime.

K1 Speed, 3130 Bradshaw Rd., Sacramento
Before you bust out the real relationship killer and play “Mario Kart” together, consider real-life karting at this indoor racetrack — which also includes a restaurant and arcade.

Quarry Park Adventures, 5373 Pacific St., Rocklin
Work up a sweat with rock climbing, zip lining, a 40-ft free fall, and so much more at this insane obstacle course.

Wake Island Water Park, 7633 Locust Rd., Pleasant Grove
Wake Island boasts tons of activities to get your blood pumping, including an aquatic obstacle course and boatless wakeboarding where participants are pulled by a suspended cable.

Wells Fargo, Various locations
Honestly — what’s more heart-pounding than applying for a high-interest loan or opening a joint checking account with someone you just met? Just the idea of putting our credit score and financial well-being in the hands of a complete stranger gets us sweating. (Please, do not do this. We cannot stress enough that this particular listing is a joke.)

Hagginwood Park sports field gets a makeover

Let’s kick it. Hagginwood Park’s sports field (3271 Marysville Blvd.) has received an update, courtesy of Sacramento’s Department of Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment.

The department announced that it installed new shock padding at the park and replaced the synthetic turf first put in 13 years ago. Part of the new turf field is made with cork filler, which will keep the temperature of the field up to 20° cooler on average.

The majority of funding for the $650,000 project, which finished ~two months ahead of schedule, came from Measure U tax dollars — the 2012-approved half-cent sales tax aimed at funding city services.

Looking for somewhere else to play? The City of Trees has 100+ athletic fields for local frolicking.
