How to celebrate baseball with Copa de la Diversión

Minor League Baseball fans know that baseball season means it’s time for Copa de la Diversión (or “Fun Cup”) — a season-long event series designed to “connect teams with their local US Hispanic communities.”

For special games and events, the River Cats transform into Los Dorados — so named as a play on “the Golden State.” Los Dorados logo also features a luchador playing baseball.

Copa de la Diversión began in 2017 with four teams in Charlotte, Durham, Visalia, and Las Vegas. The next year, it expanded to 33 teams and added a little competition. The 2018 winner? The attendance-record-breaking Mariachis de Nuevo México in Albuquerque.

This year, 90 MiLB teams will compete to be crowned campeón based on ballpark experience, community engagement, and philanthropic impact.

Help Los Dorados win by attending events and cheering them on at one of these upcoming games:
  • Los Dorados vs Salt Lake Bees | Tuesday, May 9 | 6:45 p.m.
  • Los Dorados vs Las Vegas Aviators | Tuesday, June 6 | 6:45 p.m.
  • Los Dorados vs Tacoma Rainiers | Tuesday, July 18 | 6:45 p.m.
Just be sure you’re representing your team in style.

A local Mother’s Day tradition is here — the East Sac Garden Tour set to kick off this Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m.

The two-day event helps support STEAM programs for students at David Lubin Elementary School. It also provides community members a unique opportunity to check out seven different gardens in East Sacramento.

This year’s celebration includes a few new additions:
  • A Mother’s Day run sponsored by Fleet Feet along the tour route, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
  • An on-campus boutique and cafe with offerings from local businesses like Nash & Proper
  • A wine garden at the private Sutter Lawn Tennis Club
  • Student-run lemonade stands (too cute not to include)
  • A raffle for a chance at Republic FC tickets
Want to go? Stop by the box office at David Lubin Elementary (3535 M St.) either before school hours (8:30 a.m.) or after dismissal (2:45 p.m.) to snag a ticket.
