The city is holding a free event tomorrow, April 8, to celebrate the launch of the Florin Road Community Beautification Project. Community members are invited to register for the event at 2251 Florin Rd., where they can enjoy games, music, food, and more from 12 to 6 p.m. (Sacramento City Express)

On Saturday, April 29, Front Street and Bradshaw animal shelters are teaming up to offer a free clinic for cats and dogs. Pet owners can stop by 2450 Meadowview Rd. between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for vaccines, microchipping, exams, and more. (FOX40)

City Editor Jordan here — I’ll be honest, watching HBO’s “The Last of Us” made me painfully aware of how unprepared I am for a zombie apocalypse (I know it was fungi in the show — but they were zombies for all intents and purposes, let’s be real).

Here are some local ways you can join me in improving your zombie survival skills:

Archery is a great skill to have in an apocalyptic scenario — so head over to Wilderness Archery in Rocklin to get started with lessons.
For those up-close encounters, take boxing, Muay Thai, or jiu-jitsu classes at Urijah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness.
I’ve never seen a zombie climb a tree. Tree Top Sac serves as a great model for what arboreal navigation could look like in the face of the undead.
