Oh, sweet spring, is that you?
Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in Sacramento this spring, from mid-March to mid-June.
While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what spring will bring.
Reminder: The first day of spring is Thursday, March 20.
Sac is predicted to experience typical spring temps for the area. We’re all about layering this time of year — a T-shirt for daytime and a light jacket for the evening.
🌨️ Precipitation
Expect average precipitation. The City of Trees is predicted to experience ordinary rainfall amounts for the season (~2.5 inches).
☀️Drought
According to the US Drought Monitor, drought conditions in Sacramento County are currently being kept at bay while other parts of California have dropped into very dry territory.
March into spring
March is our city’s rainiest month with 12.4 days of rain on average. Daily highs are expected to be around 63°, which is similar to February. We’re also noticing the impact of daylight saving time, with about 12 hours of daylight on average in Sac this month.
All about April
Things are heating up — this month, the average daily high increases to 70.3°. Make sure to pick up some sunscreen, too. April’s UV index can reach an average daily maximum of 5, peaking around the middle of the day.
May-ke it your month
Temps continue to rise as our daily high averages around 78.4° — which we think is perfect hiking weather. The 52° nightly temps also make May nights the beginning of our opening-a-window-right-before-bed season (which is really the best way to sleep).

THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Jordan.
Editor’s pick: I want to use this space to call out my friend Evan, who keeps saying he’s “busy” and has been putting off playing the Super Bowl against my Sacramento Redwoods because he “doesn’t want the smoke,” as the kids say.
