SMUD offered original funding for the project in 2019 with $5 million in investment + up to $10 million in matching funds.

There’s a new CEO in town... Orville Thomas took over as CEO for California Mobility Center (CMC) earlier this week.

The CMC is a nonprofit public-private partnership aiming to bring a $500 million tech hub to Sac State with a focus on mobility solutions — like fueling and charging infrastructures for electric vehicles.

Thomas is a former State Policy Director for CALSTART , an internationally recognized leader in zero-emission policy and clean transportation technology acceleration.

Next on the horizon for CMC? The company is awaiting the Tech Hub classification from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, which would help close the financing gap with additional federal funding under the CHIPS and Science Act .

It’s safe to say, we’re technically curious about what’s to come.
