News Notes

Announced

Sacramento’s iconic Farm-to-Fork Festival is merging with Terra Madres Americas, an Italian food event making its Sac debut Friday, Sept. 26-Sunday, Sept. 28. The event will take place in and around SAFE Credit Union Convention Center and highlight chefs, vintners, artisans, and live music while celebrating the Slow Food movement. (The Sacramento Bee)

Open

Pushkin’s Bakery debuted its latest location on Arden Way in Arden-Arcade last weekend. The bakery + cafe offers the brand’s beloved wheat, gluten, and dairy-free baked goods. It’s open Monday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and Tuesday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Traffic

The $16 million Sycamore Trail Overpass is now open for pedestrians + cyclists in West Sacramento, connecting neighborhoods on the Highway 50 portion of the Capital City Freeway. For many locals, the path represents “freedom” and a way to get around town without a vehicle. (The Sacramento Bee)

Coming Soon

SoCal chain Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar will open a location in Roseville on Monday, June 30 — its first ever in Placer County. The restaurant will offer caviar service, USDA prime + classic steaks, seafood, and a curated wine list. It’ll be open Monday-Sunday starting at 11 a.m. (ABC10)

Sacramentan

Anchor Lester Holt recently left “NBC Nightly News” for a full-time gig at “Dateline” and we’re loving this local interview about his deep roots in Sacramento. “As a military kid, you’re always like, ‘What’s home?’ Well, I claim Sacramento as home because this is where I grew up,” he said. (USA Today + KCRA)

Closed

After 13 years in business, Track 7 Brewing permanently closed its brewery + taprooms in Curtis Park and Natomas last weekend, offering no details on the abrupt closure. This comes on the heels of another local brewery closure — earlier this spring, Device Brewing Company shuttered all three of its Sac locations. (KCRA + FOX40)

Environment

If you’re looking to replace your lawn with drought-tolerant landscapes, there’s a tool for that. Sacramento rolled out a new, interactive dashboard with nearly 830 low-water plants. Don’t forget — the city offers up to $3,000 in Grass Conversion rebates to eligible residents who switch from grass to drought-friendly options.

Edu

Officials broke ground this week on the rebuild of Fern Bacon Middle School — Sacramento City Unified School District’s first new middle school project in 48 years. The old buildings will be demolished and replaced with a modern, energy-efficient campus that’s slated to be completed in fall 2027. (KCRA)

Arts

Trés magnifique. “Reform to Restoration” is on view at the Crocker Art Museum through Sunday, Sept. 14. The exhibition features 125 drawings and 20 paintings from more than 70 artists influenced by the final decades of the Ancien Régime. See it with museum admission Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sports

The bats have gone silent and the bullpen has been a mess, but let’s pump the brakes because baseball season is far from over. One hot streak, and the vibe can change for The A’s. Hear from the local experts with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by:

Heading to Tahoe this summer? Make sure you stop for a hike at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park — it was recently inducted into the Old-Growth Forest Network, a designation that touts the park’s rich ecology, mature native trees, and commitment to forest conservation.

For the best views of the park’s old-growth trees, hike the 1.5-mile Dolder Nature Trail at Sugar Pine Point. The trail also offers gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe.
