We take great pride in offering our weekly newsletter to you, our valued subscribers, for free — and we’re committed to keeping it that way. But we need your help. That’s why we’ve created a campaign to raise $500 over the next 10 days.

When you choose to support SACtoday, you’re investing in more than just a weekly newsletter — you’re investing in a stronger, more informed community. Your contributions go directly toward creating more of the local stories you love, expanding our coverage, and ensuring we can remain a free resource for all.

If you’ve gotten something out of being subscribed to our newsletter, like finding that life-changing concert in our Events section, or planning a memorable family day with our City Guides — we’re calling on you now to help support our mission.

A few reminders about us:

We impact readers’ lives. We receive hundreds of thank you emails every week. If you’ve gotten something out of being subscribed to SACtoday, we couldn’t be more honored to be part of your life.

We take a positive, unbiased approach to local reporting. While we’ll always let you know about decided-upon policies impacting our city, we skip the political discourse that can feel unending and draining. We believe reading about what’s going on in your city should be a positive experience.

The truth is, we love what we do. Sharing the most positive local news and events with our readers fuels us every day. If you’ve felt the love for our product too, help us today with a one-time contribution that supports local storytelling.

News Notes

Traffic

Local leaders are moving forward with the Truxel Bridge project’s latest design, which includes lanes for all forms of traffic — cars, light rail, cyclists, and pedestrians. An environmental report is required next, as well as a funding strategy. The bridge could be completed by 2039. (ABC10)

Civic

Sacramento City Council approved additional repairs up to $85,273 for the Southside Park Pool that has been closed for the past three summers. The new contract includes replacing deteriorated iron pipe drainage lines and corroded copper return lines with PVC pipe. The city hopes to reopen the upgraded pool this summer. (FOX40)

Development

AMF Land Park Lanes, the Freeport Boulevard bowling alley that shuttered after a fire in March 2024, could become a designated local landmark. The building was set to be demolished but a plan is now in the works to rehabilitate the space. We’re keeping score on any updates. (ABC10)

Watch

Rocklin-based Robert Craig Films will debut its first feature film, “NO ADDRESS,” in theaters nationwide on Friday, Feb. 28. The drama starring Ashanti, Beverly D’Angelo, and William Baldwin was shot exclusively in Greater Sacramento and shares stories of those experiencing homelessness. Grab tickets and see it on 97 screens across the Central Valley.

Coming Soon

Holy moly. Bay Area-based bakery The Posh Bagel will open six locations this year in Greater Sacramento, including a shop in Rancho Cordova and two in El Dorado Hills by the middle or end of 2025. For now, get your bagel fix at the bakeries in Folsom or Roseville. (ABC10)

Closing

After 47 years in business, Midtown’s eclectic Mixed Bag gift shop will shutter next month. Owner Linda Novi — who bought the store from founder Susan Larson five years ago — is preparing to retire. She’s been trying to sell the store, but deals have fallen through. (KCRA)

The Word

“Demisemiseptcentennial.” That’s exactly what Sacramento County is celebrating — its 175th anniversary. Our county was founded on Feb. 18, 1850 as one of California’s 27 original counties with a population of just 9,087. Today, Sacramento County serves more than 1.6 billion locals. Now, say Demisemiseptcentennial three times fast.

Announced

Mark Kotsay is here to stay. The Athletics extended Kotsay’s management contract through the 2028 season, with an option for 2029, meaning he’ll help lead the team through its temporary stint in West Sac. The club’s sold out 2025 home opener at Sutter Health Park is on Monday, March 31. (The Sacramento Bee)

Plan Ahead

More than 20 Sacramento Area museums will participate in Free Museum Weekend on Saturday, March 1 + Sunday, March 2. Admission will be free at participating museums, but capacity will be limited. To snag the freebie, ticket registration is required; that process opens Monday, Feb. 24, at 9 a.m.
