Since we’re talking murals today — did you know Sac’s oldest Chicano mural can be found inside the Washington Neighborhood Center? “The Emergence of the Chicano Social Struggle in a Bi-Cultural Society” — there since 1970 — was painted by Esteban Villa, a co-founder of the Royal Chicano Air Force. Some historians believe Villa’s art could be one of the oldest Chicano murals in the entire US.

Sacramento is asking residents for input on the city’s fiscal year 2025-2026 budget. Locals can take a survey — available in several languages — through Sunday, Nov. 24 that will help leaders develop strategies to address the budget’s deficit.
Closed

Travel
Sacramento International Airport permanently closed its hourly parking lot to make way for a new, 5,000-spot parking garage set to open in 2026. For now, travelers can park in the existing garages at Terminals A + B or in the daily lots; check parking availability before heading there.
Real Estate
The time has come to move on. Former Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jordi Fernandez recently sold his Curtis Park home for a cool $1.47 million. The 3,000-sqft, farmhouse-style residence features five bedrooms, a guesthouse, and a swimming pool, and is located near Golden 1 Center and Gunther’s Ice Cream. (The Sacramento Bee)
Environment
They see me rollin’. Sacramento has started using its first fully electric, side-loader waste collection truck along a residential recycling route. The blue and green truck — which features graphics that read “100% Electric” and “Leading the Charge” — generates zero gas emissions and supports the city’s sustainability goals.
Festival
Aftershock goes down at Discovery Park from Thursday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 13, and the schedules for the hard rock + heavy metal music fest just dropped. Some highlights include Slayer, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Insane Clown Posse, and Marky Ramone. Single day passes are still available.
Eat
Sac’s vegan food scene is about to get even better. The annual Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge is underway, in which chefs at 42 participating local restaurants (think: Sweet Haven Bakery, Buddha Belly Burger, Orphan Breakfast House, etc.) create vegan dishes and the public votes on their favorites.
Legacy
Longtime Sacramento Central Labor Council leader Bill Camp, 80, died last month. Known for advocating for the rights of California’s working families, Camp led the organization from 1999 to 2014 and is remembered by many as a “warrior for social justice.” (The Sacramento Bee)

Mural of people in ornate frames | By various artists On the side of Maverique Style House on J Street, this mural gives off a vintage feel with its hairstyles + muted colors. The peacock feathers, florals, and detailed frames compliment the more minimalist interior.
Mural of green-haired women | By various artists The side and back of Big Brother Comics features this mural of green-haired women. From the flowing hair to the golden poppies and butterflies, the mural adds a touch of whimsy to this downtown building.
