Small Business Saturday is coming up on Nov. 25. What started as an American Express campaign in 2010 to inspire consumers to shop locally has become an annual holiday that’s celebrated nationally.
We asked you to tell us which local small businesses you love shopping with + any deals you’re excited for, and (as usual) you didn’t disappoint. Plus, we included some of the local deals and shops we love.

Callie Carney, the first Black woman on the Sacramento City Council, died Nov. 4 at age 88. A long-time resident of Oak Park, Carney was known for her work with many organizations in the area, like the Women’s Civic Improvement Center and the Greater Sacramento NAACP. (Sac Bee)

Applications are open for Emerging Artist Award with the Pence Gallery. You have until April 4, 2024, to submit your portfolio + potentially win $4,000 to fund your future artistic endeavors.
Traffic
Expect street closures today in East Sacramento for the Run to Feed the Hungry and it’s over 28,000 participants. The latest closure is the J Street Bridge, which should reopen by 11:30 a.m. (Sac Bee)

Anime merch shop Hi Hi Mochi is expanding to Folsom’s Palladio at Broadstone. It’s new location (260 Palladio Pkwy., Ste. 1007) is projected to open by the end of the month. (Sac Biz Journal)

Two startups won $7,500 each at the Spark Venture Competition, a Sacramento State entrepreneurship competition. Winners Inspirame and AgriNerds were chosen from 50 applicants.
