Kings take their shot with new head coach

Hello Friday.

May 20 2022

Kings do it “Like Mike” 🏀

No, we’re not talking about the 2002 classic starring Bow Wow back when he was still Lil’ — we’re talking about the Sacramento Kings’ new head coach, Mike Brown.

Golden State Warriors associate head coach Mike Brown has reached a deal with the Kings to make him the team’s 31st head coach. He will take over for interim head coach Alvin Gentry, who stepped in following the firing of Luke Walton late last year. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mike brings 25 years of coaching experience to the franchise with the longest playoff drought in NBA history.

He lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA Finals appearance during the 2006-07 season + was named Coach of the Year following the 2008-09 season — a level of success the Kings front office would obviously like to replicate.

In eight seasons as head coach, Mike has only posted losing records twice — the ninth-highest winning percentage among coaches with 500+ games at 61%. He’s spent the last six years in Oakland working with head coach Steve Kerr + star player Steph Curry to win two NBA championships.

Mike also served as the head coach for the Nigerian national team in 2020, leading them to the No. 1 ranking in Africa — even beating the U.S. national team in an exhibition match last July.

Mike is expected to finish out the remainder of the Warriors current playoff run before trading in the Bay for the Valley full time.

DYK: You can get a flyover view of the River City without leaving the ground?

This carpet — titled “Flying Carpet” by Seyed Alavi — spans the bridge between the parking garage and the terminal A security checkpoint at Sacramento International Airport + gives passengers who aren’t racing to make their flight a bird’s eye view of the area around the Sacramento River.

The airport also has a full list of the art displayed throughout the terminals, which we think is pretty fly. ✈️
